Transportation

Toronto, Ontario is easy to explore as it has one of North America’s finest transportation systems, the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC). Getting around the city is straightforward with its easy to follow subway systems, buses and streetcars. GO Transit is Ontario’s inter-regional bus and train service linking Toronto to the city’s outlying areas. The Go Trains and buses depart at regular intervals from Toronto’s Union Station. Cycling is a great way to get around downtown. The City of Toronto continues to expand its network of bicycle lanes, off-road trails and signed routes. For those with a vehicle, Toronto’s streets follow a basic grid pattern and are easy to navigate.

Travel Tips

Toronto enjoys the full experience of all four seasons. The average temperature in January is -2°c (28°F), with a few cold snaps and snowstorms. To avoid the outside temperatures, utilize PATH, Toronto’s underground walkway linking 27 kms of subterranean shopping services and entertainment. By May the temperature is very comfortable, and this time of year is the start of patio season for many Toronto restaurants.  Toronto often experiences hot and humid summers with a few smog days. Temperatures can range anywhere from 20°C to 35°C (68°F to 95°F). September and early October are fantastic weather months, often with very warm temperatures and little rain.  Parking on most downtown streets is limited and usually requires you to purchase and display a ticket. Take heed of the parking signs to avoid a parking fine or a tow. City-owned lots are clearly indicated by the ‘Green P’ logo – a large white P in a green Circle.
