The city is surprisingly easy to get around and most Calgary events and attractions are accessible via the LRT system (the CTrain). The light rail transit system runs frequently and reliably. The lines run both north and south and east and west. Pedestrian friendly downtown Calgary, AB is a compact area easily accessible by foot. Eau Claire Market, the pathway system (over 600 kms) and Stephen Avenue Mall are popular Calgary attractions and they are easy to get to from anywhere downtown on foot. In the winter months, everyone gets from A to B via the Plus 15 system, which consists of a series of 57 suspended walkways that connect almost every building in Calgary’s metropolitan centre and spans over 16 km (10 mi).

Calgary, AB has the most sunshine of all major Canadian cities, with over 2400 hours per year. The weather patterns change from day to day and hour to hour, so be prepared for anything. The summers are typically warm and dry though the temperatures tend to cool down in the evenings. The winters can be cold, though the famous “Chinook” (a mild westerly wind) brings balmier temperatures several times each winter. If you are planning on visiting the city of Calgary keep in mind that the annual Petroleum Convention occurs in June and the Stampede occurs in July, so book your Travelodge accommodations well in advance.
